‘Shraddha kalash’ at ghats to keep Ganga clean in city


Kanpur: In a bid to keep Ganga free from spiritual material, the district management has decided to position 'shraddha kalash' (urns ) in any respect primary ghats in Kanpur and Bithoor wherein the devotees can be asked to drop the prayer material, vegetation and many others, and then immerse them in the river.

Executive engineer (setting) RK Pal said that at a gathering held in Lucknow, a private company have been given the contract of keeping all primary ghats of Ganga in Kanpur and Bithoor blank.


The company would depute ten sanitary workers at each ghat who besides cleansing them daily would request the devotees to drop their previous deities and prayer material in the 'shraddha kalash'.


The government has given the contract to the company for a period of 3 years and would pay Rs three.40 crore to it, Pal said. The company would begin its paintings from this month.
