Pune: Push to include differently abled voters in poll process


PUNE: Deepak Mhaisekar, the Pune divisional commissioner, on Thursday directed all of the election officers to ensure that no differently abled voter was once ignored from the polling process.

He informed them to test for such citizens and ensure that their polling booth was once at the floor ground.


Addressing a meeting of representatives from all of the 5 districts within the Pune division, Mhaisekar stated booth-level officers will have to take special care to find out lacking names of differently abled citizens. He stated in case some differently abled citizens had enrolled however their names weren't incorporated, they will have to be confident that their names can be incorporated within the citizens’ checklist once they submitted related paperwork.

“We need to ensure that if there's a voter with incapacity, we determine him/her and ensure that his/her polling booth is at the floor ground. For this, proper mapping will have to be accomplished,” he stated.

The divisional commissioner is also concerned about ensuring that “marked citizens” or key personalities from the division known through every district were confident of inclusion within the citizens’ checklist.

The booth-level officers (BLOs) were requested to verify a blank electoral roll through checking the names in their checklist and ensure that there are not any replica names or names of the deceased. New citizens were instructed to enrol till the Election Commission of India (ECI) introduced the closure of enrolment.


The divisional commissioner directed the officers to ensure that additions or deletions within the citizens’ checklist after January 31 were incorporated within the final citizens’ roll.


Besides maintaining extra paperwork at all of the places of work and urging other people to enrol online, the officials were informed to achieve out to citizens through the local BLOs. Housing societies and schools would proceed to cooperate, Mhaisekar stated.
