Planning to fly to Goa for V-Day? It’s too costly!

MUMBAI: If Goa is your thought of a romantic vacation spot, this Valentine’s Day you will be left heartbroken for those who reside in Mumbai. Three factors have come together and the triangle has made fares on flights from Mumbai to Goa ridiculously pricey.

It might be less expensive for Mumbaikars to fly to Colombo or Dubai instead.

Valentine’s Day falls on Thursday, which is just about a weekend. That day, no flights will depart or land into Mumbai between 11am and 5pm as the airport might be shut for runway repairs. Goa airport is shut for flights between 8.30am and 12.30pm day by day to allow its operator, Indian Navy, carry out coaching sorties. Which is most certainly why, on Saturday, the cheapest fare for two go back tickets on the Mumbai-Goa path for go back and forth on February 14 and go back on February 16/17 started at Rs30,000. But it introduced a particularly inconvenient 1am departure from Mumbai. The least expensive fare for a flight with higher timing started at a whopping Rs43,000, for a5am departure from Mumbai (no longer too convenient, but the most productive morning choice), with the go back flight being at 6.40am from Goa.

Next week, as D-day closes in, fares will best skyrocket. Compare that to a DubaiGoa flight (by the use of Bangalore), where the cheapest go back fare for two was Rs42,000. Similarly, Colombo-Goa go back fare was Rs41,500.

Couples’ Delhi-Goa go back fares started at Rs26,500 and went as much as Rs30,000 for convenient flight instances.

John Nair of Cox and Kings said, “We have noticed a 25% building up in demand for Valentine holidays to Goa. This led to an building up in fares through 15-20%.’’
