No decision yet on reopening of Patna zoo


PATNA: Residents will have to stay up for a couple of extra days for the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park or Patna zoo to reopen as the Bhopal-based National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) on Friday informed the state government that it could take couple of days extra to ship experiences of serum samples despatched to the laboratory. The serum samples have been gathered from the surroundings of the zoo.


State animal husbandry and fisheries division held a meeting with the technical team of veterinary doctors from Bihar Animal Sciences University and Institute of Animal Health and Production, Patna, on Friday. The team introduced three consecutive negative experiences of avian influenza or H5N1 virus which the Patna zoo had won from NIHSAD on January 8, January 22 and February 7, respectively.


Animal husbandry director Vinod Gunjiyal mentioned experiences of serum samples have been nonetheless awaited. “The NIHSAD-Bhopal director has informed us that the take a look at experiences could be despatched through Monday or Tuesday. The decision regarding whether to reopen the zoo or not will likely be taken only after the experiences of serum samples are made to be had,” Gunjiyal added.
