Mithakhali underpass closed for six months


AHMEDABAD: The Mithakali underpass, connecting Mithakhali Circle and Ashram Road, might be closed for visitors for the next six months due to building of a brand new bridge. The underpass runs under the Ahmedabad-Botad line, which is now being transformed to large gauge from metre gauge.


A notification issued by way of city police commissioner A Ok Singh states that the underpass might be closed from February three to August three.


Railway officers said the Railway Development Corporation is converting the track on all the line. As a part of this, the underpass may also be redesigned. Due to the conversion, the bridge will want strengthening. The bridge, which used to be previous on girders, will now get replaced with a cement concrete bridge.


Railway officers said the AMC will concurrently absorb augmentation of the drainage network. The underpass gets closed for visitors even with the slightest shower, because it temporarily gets flooded


The underpass will thus not be operational for nearly six months. Commuters can use other ways just like the Navrangpura level crossing, the Mithakhali village level railway crossing and the flyover between Ellis Bridge and Gujarat College and Butasingh Mahadev Temple Crossroads. Railways authorities said the Madalpur underpass used to be first taken up for strengthening and now it is Mithakali underpass’s flip. The work used to be taken up in stages in order that commuters don't face too much hassle.
