Ministry clears 11 acres to BBMP for projects

BENGALURU: A major hurdle to several primary infrastructure projects of Bengaluru was cleared on Tuesday with the Defence Estates Office in any case clearing transfer of defence land to BBMP for more than a few works. The transfer will probably be in trade for Equal Value Land (EVL) introduced by the Karnataka govt.

The clearance is subject to sure prerequisites and conveyed in a February 26, 2019 letter from the government of India to the manager secretary, additional leader secretary of the city development division and BBMP commissioner.

The letter mentioned the President has approved the transfer of defence land spread over 11.7 acres to BBMP for more than a few infrastructure projects.

Among primary projects that can get a fillip are construction of a highway from Ejipura Ring Road to Sarjapura Ring Road, selection highway from Kavalbyrasandra Main Road to Modi Garden in DJ Halli and widening of Hosur Laskar Road. Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman might finalise the clearance here on Wednesday.

Among the prerequisites, the state govt is obligated to provide equal worth land suitable to the Army Headquarters/ local military inside two months of the permission. The BBMP could also be mandated to construct/ reconstruct/ shift/ relocate all belongings and services situated on defence land at its value previous to demolition. The BBMP will have to additionally pay the price of bushes cut.

The Palike has been requested to adopt to not damage a sewage remedy plant on land being transferred for the Ejipura Main Road undertaking. It has been requested to coordinate with BMRCL which calls for defence land close to Hosur Laskar Road.
