Kol: Law student dies during football tournament


KOLKATA: In a sad incident, a 23-year-old legislation student, who was here to compete in the inter-university football tournament, died on Sunday after suffering cardiac arrest, circle of relatives sources stated. Rittik Das, who was pursuing legislation on the National Law University Odisha in Cuttack, collapsed on the field on the Sports Authority of India Eastern Centre and was rushed to a close-by hospital in the afternoon.

"He was declared dead on arrival. Following post-morterm examination his body was taken to his hometown in Bhubaneswar on Sunday. He was asthmatic and that may have complicated it," the circle of relatives source stated.

Rittik is survived through his father RR Mohanty, an Indian Revenue Service officer posted in New Delhi, mother Sumana Mohanty, a railway employee and a more youthful sister.


This is the second dying on the SAI Eastern Centre in not up to two years.


An 18-year-old shuttler from Madhyamgram, Niharendu Mallick had died whilst coaching in September 2017.


"This has nothing to do with SAI. It was a three-day inter-law university sports meet and they had taken the grounds on rent," a SAI legit stated.


SAI director MS Goindi was not available for a comment.
