JNU sedition case: Next hearing on Feb 28

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court docket on Wednesday gave Delhi Police time till February 28 to acquire the sanctions needed to prosecute former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a 2016 sedition case.

The court docket informed the police to ask the government concerned to expedite the sanctions.

The police informed the court docket that the sanctions are pending with the Delhi government and are anticipated in a matter of days.

"Authorities can't sit on file for indefinite period," the court docket mentioned.

The court docket had earlier wondered Delhi Police for submitting a chargesheet in opposition to Kumar and others with out procuring the needful sanctions and granted time till February 6.

On January 14, police filed the chargesheet in opposition to Kumar and previous JNU students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya in a town court docket.
