In 2 yrs, Kol metro to get own maintenance crew

KOLKATA: Metro Railway is taking the aid of BEML Ltd to rent workforce for day-to-day maintenance of rakes for the East-West Metro corridor.

This is a stop-gap association till Metro trains railway workforce for maintenance of the rakes which are being supplied by way of BEML Ltd.

Meetings between the 2 companies have already been held and the tendering process has begun to select an company that would provide the upkeep workforce.

“We already have motormen, who can be running the rakes when the first segment of operations get started. We have were given those motormen from Eastern, South Eastern and East Coast Railway. There are 17 of them. While 5 have already received training, the remainder 12 are present process training,” Metro Railway CPRO Indrani Banerjee mentioned.

She added: “So a ways, as maintenance workforce are concerned, Metro Railway can’t spare any due to our own agenda. Moreover, workforce will also need to be educated to undertake maintenance of the BEML rakes. That is the explanation why now we have sought BEML’s help in settling on folks.”

BEML already has a twoyear defects legal responsibility clause settlement with Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (KMRCL), the company enforcing the East-West Metro corridor.

Under this settlement, dedicated BEML workforce will deal with any production defects in the rakes. The outsourced maintenance workforce can be accountable for daily affairs.

As there gained’t be too many products and services or rakes working in the first segment, the number of outsourced maintenance workforce will also no longer be too high.

“Under railway regulations, we can’t have outsourced workforce for an indefinite period for work that is regular in nature. Hence, we will be able to even be training our own workforce in keeping up those rakes. Hopefully, we shall have enough number of them by way of the tip of two years. If in any respect necessary, we shall search some the aid of an exterior company. Operations, however, gained’t get affected due to shortage of workforce,” Banerjee added.

The comfortable file is in its final stage of preparation and hiring is likely to get started quickly. While Metro Railway can pay for those additional arms, BEML can be accountable for technical sides.
