Hyd only metro to win Swachhta award in 2018

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) used to be awarded Swachhta Excellence Award by means of the Union ministry of housing and concrete affairs. Among metro cities with a population of over 10 lakh, Hyderabad used to be the only town which bagged the award.

Engaging community-based organisations like ladies self-help groups (SHGs) to unfold consciousness about solid waste management works, together with capping of Jawahar Nagar landfill site and replacing tricycles with 2,500 Swachh auto tippers are one of the vital steps which helped town bag the award.

According to environmentalists and civic activists, sanitation standards in many cities used to be a lot worse when in comparison to Hyderabad. “The town bagging the award displays the pathetic sanitation standards in different cities. Yet, sanitation within the town needs to be progressed and capping of dumpyard will have to be accomplished scientifically as in line with the forged waste management rules,” said environmentalist Okay Purushottam Reddy.
