Gzb: More mass-marriage dole, but takers few

GHAZIABAD: The UP government’s mass marriage scheme has few takers, in spite of the state raising the once a year incentive from Rs 35,000 to Rs 51,000 for each and every couple.

Though the government has set a goal of 1,500 mass marriages for 2018-19 for Ghaziabad district, it has thus far been able to get most effective 188 couples to tie the knot. The number, then again, contains 97 mass marriages that were solemnised within the district on Saturday.

“On Saturday, 97 couples exchanged vows within the district beneath the Mukhya Mantri Samuhik Vivah Yojna. At 23, the utmost marriages came about in Bhojpur block,” said Sanjay Kumar Vyas, the district social welfare officer. Across the state, 15,380 marriages were solemnized on Saturday.

Asked concerning the conceivable reason behind such reluctance, an reputable said: “Marriage in any household is an issue of prestige. Families, despite the fact that they’re poor, don’t wish to give an influence within the society that they are able to’t come up with the money for the marriage of their daughter. This could be a reason behind other people no longer coming ahead for the scheme.”

Vyas expressed hope that the selection of couples would increase the next time the government organised this kind of programme. But reaching the target of 1,500 this 12 months would be more straightforward said than carried out.
