Gurugram: Test run of new signals that react to traffic volume

GURUGRAM: The MCG is putting in four ‘smart’ visitors lighting between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk in affiliation with a Japanese firm in an try to decongest visitors at the stretch.

These visitors lighting will perform on a ‘Real-Time Intelligent System’, which can practice visitors with the assistance of sensors and cameras put in at the junction or at the visitors sign itself. Based on visitors density, it is going to robotically modify the timings of the alerts. For instance, if one of the carriageways has an extended queue, the device will allocate a longer green sign to decongest the stretch.

“While there are different clever visitors management methods in operation, what makes this one different is that the device interacts with the alerts immediately, instead of sending it to a central keep an eye on room,’ said Dr Ajit Dua, an guide with Kyosan Electric Manufacturing Co Ltd, the firm with which MCG is participating for the project.

This will cut down the time wasted in making the decision to modify sign timings and cut back snarls, MCG officers said. The corporation has decided on four visitors junctions between Huda City Centre and Subhash Chowk on which the device might be put in as a pilot project.

While the Japanese firm will give you the equipment and the technology, MCG will carry out the civil works. At present, the smart visitors lighting have already been put in at the four junctions and remaining paintings is underway.

“If the pilot project is successful, we can enforce the device in different parts of town as smartly,” said MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav.

The smart visitors lighting might be inaugurated by Union minister and local MP Rao Inderjit Singh on February 12.

Gurugram visitors police has also been planning to head hi-tech to care for long automobile queues at primary visitors junctions within the town.
