Ganjam couple re-arrested in chit fund case


BERHAMPUR: Police on Monday re-arrested a couple, managing director and director of a chit fund corporate, positioned at Kanishi close to right here, for allegedly duping traders of Rs 60 crore.

Braja Mohan Patnaik, 44 and his wife Tridhara Mohanty, 40, managing director and director respectively of Datum Marketing Limited, a chit fund corporate, have been nabbed from a court docket premises right here.

"The couple was arrested after a fresh case was lodged by Sarada Mohapatra of Hillpatna here," mentioned inspector in-charge, Golanthara police station, Alok Jena. The couple was forwarded to court docket on Tuesday.

The couple was arrested on November 6 final yr by the Golanthara police, who registered two circumstances against them. Both have been released on bail on January 21 and gave the impression in the court docket on Monday.

Several depositors, who have been allegedly cheated by the Ponzi firm, tried to manhandled them on the court docket premises, but police rescued them, Jena mentioned.


Police had earlier frozen 4 financial institution accounts having Rs 40 lakh of the firm, sealed its office at Kanishi and seized a number of paperwork, laptop sets and tough discs. Besides they had also arrested two employees - Bijaya Mohapatra and Tripati Balaji Patra - in some of the circumstances registered against the company.


The corporate allegedly accrued crores of public cash under different investment schemes and lured the people to take a position their hard-earned cash, promising to multiply the investments in a brief span of time. But the company didn't refund the volume after the adulthood of the schemes, police mentioned.


Though the exact amount duped by the company from the traders has now not been assessed, but initial investigation published it accrued round Rs 60 crore under different schemes from 1,550 traders, police mentioned.
