France: Italy ambassador recall is an important warning

PARIS: France's govt spokesman says the recall of its ambassador to Italy is temporary but sends an important signal toward its ancient best friend to not meddle in internal French affairs.

Spokesman Benjamin Griveaux mentioned Friday on Europe-1 radio that the recall was once triggered by way of months of "unfounded attacks'' from Italian govt members Luigi Di Maio and Matteo Salvini _ and particularly by way of Di Maio's meeting in France this week with yellow vest protesters.

Griveaux mentioned that the talk over with violated "probably the most elementary diplomacy'' because it was once unannounced. Referring to Italy's populist leaders, he criticized a "nationalist leprosy'' eating away at Europe's unity and said European Union members should "behave better toward partners.''

France and Italy are founding members of the EU and their bizarre dispute is being worried different EU members.
