Four pilgrims die of cardiac arrest


Allahabad: Four pilgrims died because of cardiac failure whilst 2,460 others affected by various ailments reported on the Central Hospital in Kumbh Mela space on Monday on the instance of Mauni Amavasya. One devotee suffered brain haemorrhage after taking dip and used to be referred to Motilal Nehru Medical College by way of the doctors at hospital.
The 4 pilgrims who suffered center stroke after taking dip in Sangam — the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and legendary Saraswati — and succumbed were identified as Shanti Devi (62) from Gorakhpur, Saraswati Devi (67) from Basti, Hanuman Prasad (67) from Chitakoot and Dhruv Dev (65) from Damoh, Madhya Pradesh.

When the pilgrims reported felt restlessness, they were rushed to the first help posts arrange at bathing ghats from the place doctors referred them to Central hospital.

All the deceased pilgrims above 60 years of age and were reported brought useless to the Central hospital. “The devotees were already affected by some center ailment. The our bodies were passed over to the relatives accompanying them,” said Central Hospital’s chief scientific superintendent Dr Deepak Seth.


At least 2,400 saints and pilgrims affected by various ailments, together with bronchial asthma, bronchitis, center problems and skin infections, registered in the outpatient department.


Six sufferers were admitted in the indoor department till 5pm. Pilgrims getting back from outstations began reporting on the outpatient department from Sunday night onwards.


The icy chilly climate stipulations, dust, crowd and exertion are taking a toll on the well being of pilgrims, especially, the aged ones, coming from other districts, Dr Seth said.
