Doctor clicks on link sent by 'bank', loses Rs 3L


MUMBAI: A 30-year-old guy for a personal company in Pune was once arrested on Saturday for allegedly duping a health care provider from Gamdevi of Rs 2.9 lakh last November.

The accused, Bipin Mahato, who was once nabbed from Pune, had known as the doctor on November 21 and offered himself as an government of a financial institution with which the doctor maintains an account, mentioned an reputable from Gamdevi police station. The caller briefed the doctor concerning the financial institution’s services and “verified” his (the doctor’s) account number to lend credence that he was once an accredited reputable calling from the financial institution.


“He told the doctor that he had to authorise the financial institution’s app that the medico have been the usage of. For this, he mentioned he would ship him a link on his cellphone and the doctor best had to click on on it and ahead it to some other number,” mentioned a police supply.


As the doctor carried out that, he gained 5 messages on his telephone about Rs 2.9 lakh being transferred from his account, mentioned the supply. The doctor was once unable to touch the caller and then he lodged a complaint.


The police probe published that the cash have been trasnferred to the account of one Bipin Mahato from Bettiah in Bihar. The police tracked him all the way down to his administrative center in Pune. Mahato is in police custody.
