Denied fancy car and cash, family calls off wedding

AMBALA: The Mullana police have booked three individuals of a family under the Dowry Prohibition Act for allegedly refusing to marry the complainant’s daughter after engagement.

The widowed mom mentioned in her complaint that the accused at first demanded a Bullet bike which she agreed to, but later when they asked for a luxury automotive and Rs 7 lakh money their son who works as a contractual worker at a central authority place of work in Sector 5, Panchkula, I told them I may just not manage to pay for so much.

So, after the roka ceremony, they refused for marriage, the complainant mentioned. “I tried to request the family, but they didn't listen and referred to as off the wedding,” she mentioned.

The district police have registered a case under Section 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act in opposition to the three family members.

Mullana SHO told TOI, “As the lady’s marriage used to be referred to as off, a case has been registered under the Dowry Prohibition Act and the matter is under investigation.”
