Defence ministry clears transfer of 11 acres to BBMP for infra projects

BENGALURU: A major hurdle to several primary infrastructure initiatives of Bengaluru was once cleared on Tuesday with the Defence Estates Office finally clearing switch of defence land to BBMP for more than a few works. The switch will probably be in change for Equal Value Land (EVL) presented by the Karnataka executive.

The clearance is matter to certain conditions and conveyed in a February 26, 2019 letter from the government of India to the manager secretary, further leader secretary of the urban building division and BBMP commissioner.

The letter said the President has approved the switch of defence land unfold over 11.7 acres to BBMP for more than a few infrastructure initiatives.

Among primary initiatives that will get a fillip are development of a highway from Ejipura Ring Road to Sarjapura Ring Road, selection highway from Kavalbyrasandra Main Road to Modi Garden in DJ Halli and widening of Hosur Laskar Road. Chief minister HD Kumaraswamy and defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman might finalise the clearance here on Wednesday.

Among the conditions, the state executive is obligated to supply equal value land suitable to the Army Headquarters/ local military inside of two months of the permission. The BBMP could also be mandated to construct/ reconstruct/ shift/ relocate all assets and services situated on defence land at its cost previous to demolition. The BBMP must also pay the price of timber cut.

The Palike has been requested to undertake not to harm a sewage remedy plant on land being transferred for the Ejipura Main Road mission. It has been requested to coordinate with BMRCL which calls for defence land close to Hosur Laskar Road.
