Couple held for smuggling forex at IGI airport


NEW DELHI: An elderly couple was arrested through the customs officers for allegedly trying to smuggle abroad foreign currency price Rs 92 lakh at Delhi airport, in line with an reliable remark issued on Sunday.


The accused were intercepted after they were proceeding to board a flight to Dubai on Friday.


An in depth private and luggage search of the 2 passengers resulted within the recovery of foreign currency — Euro and Dirham— equivalent to Rs 92.02 lakh, it said.


The two, aged around 70 years, were accompanied with their nine-year-old grandchild, the Customs Department said within the remark.


The forex was seized and the couple arrested, it said.
