BSP MLA raises a stink over smoking


LUCKNOW: The lawmakers who smoke within the House have been significantly embarrassed when BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh demanded that smoking in gallery be utterly banned or a smoking zone be designated within the building to restrict the pollution to only one corner. Smoking within the House is banned.

Making it additional awkward for the smoker MLAs, Singh added, "When the behaviour of lawmakers is itself one that violates existing laws, how would they raise the concerns and issues of general public."


Pointing out that MLAs smoke overtly within the gallery, not even taking regard in their feminine colleagues and senior participants of the House, Singh mentioned that he had voiced his concern in this regard ultimate year also but the lawmakers nonetheless refuse to practice common guidelines of not smoking in public.


Speaker Hriday Narain Dikshit straight away requested his essential secretary Pradip Dubey to take in the issue of deciding a smoking zone once conceivable. Though the Lok Sabha has a smoking zone, but the Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow does not have one.


When NewsTread talked to the security and sanitation team of workers within the building, they mentioned that a number of MLAs clandestinely carry 'paan masala' and tobacco within the House and go away the empty pouches haphazardly. It used to be because of this habit of chewing tobacco and lime and disposing it away carelessly that Yogi govt needed to face major embarrassment when some white powder found in House used to be declared 'powerful explosive'. Later it used to be found that it used to be lime powder'.
