Automatic signalling system to hit train services

BENGALURU: With South Western Railway (SWR) all set to commission the much-delayed automatic signalling device between Bengaluru Cantonment and Whitefield stations, a number of train products and services are likely to be affected.

SWR officials stated they're making plans to commission the phase in different phases through this month-end. Sources stated train products and services are likely to be affected between Cantonment and Byappanahalli from 11pm on February nine to 11pm on February 10. Following this, SWR will take up paintings on Byappanahalli-KR Puram and KR Puram-Whitefield sections.

The project used to be sanctioned in 2013-14 at an estimated value of Rs 19.7 crore. While SWR is yet to factor a formal conversation, resources stated 12 trains are likely to be cancelled; 15 may be in part cancelled and seven will probably be diverted to different stations.

The cancelled trains include: 12677/12678 KSR Bengaluru-Ernakulam-Bengaluru Express (Feb. 10), 56503 Bengaluru Cantonment-Vijayawada Passenger (Feb. 10), 56504 Vijayawada-Bengaluru Cantonment (Feb. nine), 16522/16521 KSR Bengaluru-Bangarpet-Bengaluru (Feb. 10), 16236/16235 Mysuru-Tuticorin-Mysuru (Feb. nine), 56507/56508 Marikuppam-KSR Bengaluru-Marikuppam (Feb. 10), 56511/56512 Bangarpet-Marikuppam-Bangarapet (Feb. 10).

The automated signalling device is predicted to optimize use of tracks to function more trains, do away with guide operations, support punctuality and reduce delays. “The provision increases phase capacity (skill to deal with choice of trains) through almost 3 times for quicker motion of trains and enables working more in this phase,” stated SWR leader PRO E Vijaya.
