Audio clip row: Speaker feels ‘like rape survivor’


BENGALURU: During the audio-clip debate within the legislative assembly on Tuesday, speaker KR Ramesh Kumar likened himself to a rape survivor who has to recount her nerve-racking experience again and again in a courtroom of regulation.

During the dialogue on the audio clip released by way of chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, BJP MLA Shivanagouda Naik is purportedly heard telling Sharanagouda, son of JD(S) MLA Nagannagouda Kandakur, that “money was once paid to Kumar” to just accept resignations with out questions. Kumar’s name came up many times right through the assembly debate.


Kumar said he was once reminded of a rape sufferer in courtroom. “If anyone asks her what happened, she says the rape can have happened once, however the questions in courtroom raped me 100 occasions. This appears to be my scenario,” he said. The male-dominated House gained the insensitive comment with laughter. The 10 girls legislators present remained mute spectators.


Bharati Shetty, BJP Mahila Morcha president, said in Mysuru on Tuesday that she doesn’t consider girls are equivalent to men and contended girls don’t require the liberty loved by way of men.


Meeting nowadays to decide on inquiry

With the audio clip drama rocking the legislative assembly for the second day on Tuesday, speaker Ok R Ramesh Kumar has referred to as a gathering on Wednesday to decide the nature of a probe into the talk. The executive has mooted an SIT probe; the BJP has demanded a House inquiry or a judicial probe.
