AP: Gang steals container load of mobile phones

AMARAVATI: A gang of suspected interstate robbers has stolen a container load of mobile telephones, estimated to be value Rs four crore, in SPS Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, police mentioned Wednesday.

The gang, comprising greater than three participants, waylaid the container-laden truck on the National Highway-16 near Dagadarthi in Nellore late Tuesday evening and forcibly drove it away by way of kidnapping the driving force, they mentioned.

The container used to be stuffed with a consignment of mobile telephones manufactured at Sri City SEZ in neighbouring Chittoor district and used to be on its way to Kolkata.

Nellore district superintendent of police A Rastogi told PTI some miscreants came in a car and brought along a lorry after they intercepted the container-laden truck.

The SP mentioned they kidnapped the truck motive force and drove the car away and deserted it near Bitragunta.

They also let the driving force off, Rastogi mentioned.

"The cellular phones were reloaded into the lorry the miscreants brought along and driven away," the SP added.

The truck motive force referred to as the police regulate room around 1am following which the police introduced a hunt to track the gang and the lorry.

"It is likely that the miscreants are part of an inter-state gang. We have formed special teams to nab them," Rastogi mentioned.
