Amreli: Engineer held in Rs 8.5 crore scam


RAJKOT: A former engineer of the Amreli water provide department has been arrested for involvement in an eight-year-old scam of siphoning Rs eight.5 crore.


Vijay Patel, who was once arrested from his place of abode in Bardoli by means of Amreli police station officials on Saturday, had allegedly siphoned off the money by means of filing the bills of the initiatives which have been only on papers and which had never observed the sunshine of the day from 2007 to 2009.


Apart from Patel, others involved in the scam had been identified as Chandrakant Barot, executive engineer of Amreli water provide department, Bharat Bandhara, executive engineer of the department, Manji Sandapa, executive engineer of the department, Padmakant Rawal, executive engineer of the department, Madhudas Kubawat, accountant of the department, Vimal Kathiriya, proprietor of Vimal Constructions, Vipul Raiyani, proprietor of Jagdish Construction, Jaimin Construction, Ankur Construction, RK Construction, KK Sorathiya Construction and Awadh Construction.


“The others involved in the scam had moved Gujarat HC and acquired a stay against their arrest. The HC, on the other hand, ordered an inquiry against them. When we relaunched investigation into the case, we discovered incriminating evidences against Patel, following which he was once arrested,” said Rajkot superintendent of police Nirlipt Rai.


Unlike different accused in the scam, Patel had now not acquired a stay against his arrest from the court.
