After panel report, KU suspends its former registrar Hosamani

Dharwad: Karnatak University suspended Professor Okay M Hosamani of the dep. of chemistry on Tuesday on charges of sexual harassment and plagiarism amongst others. The decision was taken at a gathering of the Syndicate following a document by means of the four-member fact discovering committee, stated vice-chancellor Pramod Gai here on Wednesday.

He stated KU shaped a four-member committee to probe the fees against Hosamani on February four. “The committee puzzled Hosamani for 3 days and later submitted a document mentioning that the fees against the professor had been prima facie true. The Syndicate decided to droop Prof Hosamani pending a top degree inquiry into the fees and accordingly, the school issued orders on Tuesday suspending him,” stated Gai.

The V-C stated the Syndicate decided to represent a one-man committee headed by means of retired district pass judgement on V A Muchandi to probe into the fees intimately and submit a document in a month. Based on his document, the federal government will probably be requested to take further motion, Gai stated.

The major charges against Professor Hosamani, who was appointed as registrar (management), only to be removed from the post by means of the state govt on February 1, are sexually harassing a woman pupil who was doing PhD below him and plagiarism. He could also be accused of giving out data that was not to be given below the RTI Act.

Gai expressed remorseful about that Hosamani approached the media and leveled false allegations that there have been irregularities in the usage of the Rs five crore granted by means of the state govt for the centenary celebrations of Karnatak College. He clarified that the expenditure has been audited by means of govt and college auditors and out of the Rs five crore, Rs 2.86 crore was utilized and the remaining quantity is with the college. Gai stated he would record a legal defamation case against Hosamani. Registrar (management) Vijayalaxmi Aminabhavi, registrar (evaluation) Sali, finance officer R L Hyderabad and Chemistry HoD Mahadevappa Karidurganavar had been present.
