Adult female leopard’s carcass found in Angul

Angul: The carcass of an adult female leopard was present in Kanaloi reserve woodland below Angul woodland range close to Rangmatia hills in Angul district on Saturday.
A woodland department source mentioned the carcass of the leopard was discovered in the foothills of Rangmatia.

Locals first noticed the carcass on Friday when a few of them had long gone to woodland to gather firewood and knowledgeable the topic to the woodland department. Later, woodland officers rushed to the spot and protected the carcass the whole night time. On Saturday, the carcass of the leopard was recovered and delivered to Angul via the woodland officers.

V Karthik, DFO, Angul, who visited the spot and held an inquiry into the leopard’s demise mentioned, “We have recovered the carcass. Though we discovered her nostril bleeding, we cannot exactly ascertain the reason in the back of the demise of the leopard. We have known as knowledgeable team from OUAT, Bhubaneswar, and natural world professionals from Angul. A team of veterinary professionals will do the post-mortem on Sunday.”

On January 16, the woodland officers had rescued carcass of some other leopard from Rengali reservoir space in Pallahara sub-division.

Last year, a male Royal Bengal Tiger ‘Mahavir’, which was introduced from Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve for relocation, had been discovered lifeless in Satkosia sanctuary, raising considerations over tiger relocation process in state.
