Abbakka Utsav 2019 to be held under supervision of DC

MANGALURU: The two-day Abbakka Utsava 2019 will likely be held at the Ullal Beach from March 2 under strict supervision of the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.

Deputy commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil said on Thursday that all the competition will likely be monitored through the district administration.

“From closing 12 months, finances for the Abbakka competition are being released at once through the district administration. We performed the competition closing 12 months correctly with proper accounts. This 12 months, even the cultural programmes are determined through the district administration, zilla panchayat and Kannada and the tradition department. We have organized quality programmes inviting eminent artists,” Senthil said.

District minister UT Khader said the competition will commence with a procession from Bharath High School at three.30pm on March 2. Cultural programmes will likely be held at a venue on the sea shore in Ullal. Other than the cultural programmes, special sessions will likely be hung on various subjects releated to Veera Rani Abbakka, the first girl warrior who fought in opposition to Portuguese within the 16th century, on March three. Resource persons Udaya Barkooru, Denis Fernandes, Keladi Venkatesh Jois, Shivaram Shetty, Shaila will likely be part of the session whilst Goa University professor Shyam Bhat will preside over the development, he said.

A multi-lingual poets’ meet involving poets from Kannada, Konkani, Arebhashe, Tulu, Beary and Kundapra Kannada languages will likely be presided over through LC Sumithra, former professor of Thunga College, Theerthahalli.
