2 lakh people take free rides in Chennai metro

CHENNAI: More than two lakh other people took unfastened rides on metro trains here on Monday after the 45km phase-1 network turned into fully operational. CMRL has extended unfastened rides until Tuesday night.

Chennai Metro Rail stated 2.01 lakh other people travelled in the trains across the two corridors after the 10km stretch from Washermenpet to AG-DMS was thrown open on Sunday. More than 65,000 passengers travelled on Sunday after the new stretch was opened in the night time and due to this fact rides were made unfastened for commuters later in the night time.

Though a technical glitch disrupted products and services between AG-DMS and Little Mount on Monday morning with metro trains running on a lesser frequency than commonplace, trains were operated as same old on the rest of the phase.

Commuters can now commute from Washermenpet to Airport by way of Anna Salai in a matter of 45 mins for a ticket priced Rs 60. They can also board trains from Central Metro to St Thomas Mount.
