11k people without roof on heads in Diamond City

SURAT: A up to date survey of homeless in city spaces of India beneath the National Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) has found that 10,945 individuals are homeless in Surat city.

Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) plans to build eight safe haven homes at the price of Rs 11 crore with total capability of 6,000 for these homeless people. One of them with capability of 172 has already started in SMIMER compound where facilities such as anganwadi schooling, sponsored meals, scientific treatment or even milk for infants and pregnant moms is being supplied.

At present, there are 33 families residing in SMIMER safe haven house including 88 men, 54 women, 32 youngsters from 0 to five years age, 03 pregnant moms, two disabled particular person and 12 old-age individuals.

The survey confirmed there were 7,078 homeless males and 3,867 women.

Voluntary and charitable organizations like Tata Trust, Prayas and others are providing them with meals, safe haven, healthcare and elementary schooling.

Gayatri Jariwala, assistant commissioner and in-charge of the challenge mentioned, “Government by myself can’t fulfil all needs of the homeless, but lend a hand from NGOs and fiscal lend a hand coming from a number of firms is making this conceivable.”
