‘Women more comfortable to report harassers now’


HYDERABAD: City police have said that increasingly women at the moment are comfy filing FIRs against romeos. Courtesy: The zero-tolerance coverage adopted via the police against such elements. Compared to 2017, the collection of FIRs filed against romeos, in 2018, increased from 225 to 299 beneath Rachakonda commissionerate. Police have claimed that that is after a number of awareness programmes taken up via the police at schools and faculties among different places.


“The knowledge presentations that the collection of FIRs have long past up, which is a positive alternate, the SheTeam has noticed. The initial hesitation in filing FIR against harassers have come down. After giving assurance, women nowadays are comfy filing FIR against such offenders. The knowledge also unearths that the overall collection of such instances have come down from 602 in 2017 to 516 in 2018,” said Shaik Saleema, Additional DCP and SheTeam in-charge for Rachakonda.


Police have also noticed a decrease within the collection of minors serious about instances reminiscent of stalking, passing offensive feedback, following or harassing women on roads. In 2017, where 84 minors had been stuck for such instances, the numbers had come all the way down to 46 in 2018. “Usually minors are not booked for eve-teasing however are giving counselling within the presence of their oldsters, but when the case is severe, even they aren't spared,” the additional DCP said.
