Waterways to link Navi Mumbai airport


THANE: The Centre is planning to connect the approaching Navi Mumbai airport with adjoining Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and Vasai, Union minister for road shipping & highways, shipping & water sources Nitin Gadkari stated at the foundation laying rite of two road improvement initiatives in Thane district on Thursday afternoon.


The Mumbai metropolitan region has an over 150km-long shoreline, which has been underutilized. The minister stated his division was once mulling water routes from neighbouring suburbs to the airport and stated a viability and feasibility survey had proven certain effects, making it conceivable to introduce routes even ahead of the airport was once able, the usage of hovercraft, catamarans and seaplanes. The state and central governments have deliberate several road and railway hyperlinks to the approaching facility.


"I had discussed plans with Mumbai Port Trust and a feasibility test had shown favourable results. We hope to link the suburbs with the new airport through waterways in addition to the rail, road and Metro connect," Gadkari stated.
