TIFR Emeritus Professor delivers distinguished lecture at UoH

HYDERABAD: E V Sampathkumaran, Emeritus Professor, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai delivered a Distinguished Lecture on "Behaviour of 4f electrons, a puzzle for decades?" at the University of Hyderabad (UoH).

Sampathkumaran, in his lecture, introduced a detailed history of the advanced nature of the ‘f’ electrons within the periodic table. He started his talk with the classic instance of Cerium wherein the valence fluctuation was first noticed below drive. In continuation, he also explained the drive triggered valence fluctuations in SmS maintaining the structure.

He continued his discussions additional to various valence fluctuating programs akin to CeCu2Si2, EuCu2Si2 and so on. In addition, he also explained the contribution of the 4f electrons in opposition to the magnetism in various rare-earth inter metal compounds. In conclusion, the speaker also discussed the open demanding situations within the box of ‘f’ electron which one can attempt to address.
