Saina claims Indonesia Masters after injured Marin limps out


JAKARTA: Ace shuttler Saina Nehwal claimed her first BWF name in two years after three-time world champion Carolina Marin of Spain limped out of the Indonesia Masters ultimate because of a leg harm on Sunday.

"I took a break the whole of December. I played this events to see how good I am and I was surprised with myself. January 1 was my first match (PBL) against Sindhu after the injury. I didn't do any kind of training. Doctors asked me not to do any training," Saina stated.

"But I'm really not happy with the way I were given it today. Of course I am glad that I may just reach the finals, beating tricky warring parties like He Bingjiao. Both the tournaments, I am very happy with my performance. It is excellent to beat (Nozomi) Okuhara, Binjiao, Dinar (Dyah Ayustine).

"In the finals, after all Carolina had the higher hand and I sought after to struggle and see how the fit is going however it was unlucky what happened," added the 28-year-old from Hyderabad.

Olympic champion Marin was favorite to win the name. Coming into this fit, she led 6-Five in her head-to-head file towards Saina, an opponent she beat remaining week at the Malaysia Masters semifinal in Kuala Lumpur.
