Poachers kill 2 home guards at Valmiki reserve

BAGAHA/PATNA: Poachers hacked to death two home guards throughout the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) at Bagaha in West Champaran district within the wee hours of Sunday.

Police said the incident occured when a team of seven unarmed home guards, who were on patrol accountability throughout the wooded area at Naurangia house of VTR, noticed a poacher laying traps and nets. “The poacher was once nabbed by the house guards. However, on being puzzled the poacher raised an alarm and his accomplices numbering over 20 seemed on the scene and attacked the house guards with axes and other fatal guns. While two of the house guards died on the spot, every other was once seriously injured within the attack,” police said adding that closing home guards by hook or by crook managed to escape.

The slain home guards have been recognized as Arjun Yadav and Hiralal Kushwaha. Pradeep Mahto, who was once severely injured within the attack, has been rushed to hospital for emergency medical remedy, police said.

Muzaffarpur zonal IG Sunil Kumar said a team of home guards were on patrol within the wooded area house beneath the Gobrahiya police station house in Bagaha when they were attacked by the poachers armed with sharp-edged guns.

Three people have been arrested, he said. “Some poaching process was once happening within the house which was once noticed by the house guards who were unarmed. The poachers a ways outnumbered the house guards and attacked the latter with iron rods, sticks and other sharp guns ensuing within the death of two home guards on-the-spot and seriously injuring every other,” he said.

The IG said that Bagaha SP Arvind Kumar Gupta and wooded area division officials visited the site of the incident on Sunday morning. He said that villagers within the neighbouring spaces were being puzzled by police and raids were directly to nab the individuals involved within the attack. However, no arrest have been made in this connection until the time of filing this record.

While the deceased home guard Yadav hailed from Jurapakar beneath the Bhairoganj police station house, Kushwaha hailed from Malpurwa beneath the Town police station — both in Bagaha town within the district, assets said.
