Panchayat elections: Voting underway in T'gana

HYDERABAD: Polling began for the second one phase of the Panchayat elections in Telangana Friday amid tight safety.

This is the first ever polls for panchayats after the formation of the state in 2014. Elections are being held in three levels.

Polling began at 7 a.m and can finish at 1 p.m at the same time as counting of votes might be taken up from 2 p.m similar day, a senior authentic mentioned.

Though four,135 panchayats had been scheduled to move the polls in the second one phase, the election was declared unanimous in 788 panchayats, and election to another five was cancelled due to different causes.

As many as 10,668 candidates are contesting for sarpanch posts in 3,342 panchayats whilst 63,480 candidates are in the fray for 26,191 wards, an authentic verbal exchange from the State Election Commission mentioned, including 10,317 wards were elected unanimously and polls for 94 wards is probably not carried out for various causes.

Though the elections are held without any involvement of political events and celebration symbols, all primary political events have thrown their weight at the back of their sympathisers involved.

About 50,000 safety group of workers are being deployed for overseeing safety arrangements during the poll process, Telangana Additional DG (Law and Order) Jitender told PTI on Thursday.

The first phase was hung on January 21 andthird phase of the polls might be hung on January 30.
