Man held with Rs 72 lakh old currency notes

PANCHKULA: Police arrested a man after banned currency notes price Rs 72 lakh were recovered from him on Saturday.

According to sub-inspector Mulk Raj, police submit in-charge, Amravati Enclave, that they had won a complaint from Vikramjit Singh of Ludhiana that he along with his buddies had long past to Shimla, where they met one Karambir Singh of Butana village, close to Karnal, and become pleasant. One of Vikramjit’s buddies used to be within the trade of exchanging currency notes and Karambir proposed to exchange old currency notes amounting to Rs 1 crore on a just right fee.

After Vikramjit returned to Ludhiana, he won a call from Karambir asking him to prepare for exchanging the old currency notes. Vikramjit knowledgeable the police.

Police found 6,700 currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination amounting to Rs 67 lakh and 990 currency notes of Rs 500 denomination amounting to Rs four.95 lakh.

A local court remanded the accused in police custody for two days.
