Groundnut stock theft scam busted in Gandhidham

RAJKOT: Gandhidham police unearthed a significant groundnut theft racket on Sunday by way of arresting 10 individuals for stealing 654 gunny baggage (each and every containing 35 kg) from the godown of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed).

Police sources said that the arrested accused have published the names of three others together with Amit Thakkar, son of BJP councillor in Anjar municipality, Hanif Hasam Kumbhar, additionally a resident of Anjar and Kasam Kesar of Bhuj.

It was on January 22 that the police intercepted a truck all through vehicle checking near Gandhidham GIDC. However, the truck motive force and another person with him fled from the spot, raising suspicion of foul play.

“We discovered that the groundnut sacks had stamps of Nafed emblazoned over them, following which we contacted Nafed authorities who said the sacks had been stolen from their godown. We arrested the truck owner, Nandlal Ahir, who said that the truck had been employed by way of Farooq Sama. We then arrested Sama who published the names of the accused, resulting in their arrests,” D B Rana, inspector of Gandhidham B-Division police station, instructed newshounds at a press conference on Sunday.

The accused, together with Sama, have been recognized as Amad Parith, Ali Hasam Buchad, Jusab Hussein Buchad, Sultan Isa Bhati, Ilyas Ayub Dharaiya, Hussein Harun Tank, Gafur Juneja and Wasimkhan Sheikh.

“Of the accused, Jusab and Tank are history-sheeters excited about a number of theft circumstances,” added Rana.

It is suspected that the seizure is solely the end of the iceberg and this is usually a bigger scam of stealing groundnut procured underneath minimal enhance value (MSP) from farmers and promoting it at higher prices in the open market.
