Farmer immolates self after crop failure in Vanthli

RAJKOT: One more farmer from Saurashtra ended life because of crop failure in Junagadh district on Thursday.

According to police, Harsukh Aadeshna (55) immolated himself in his farm in Bantia village of Vanthli taluka of Junagadh. Police stated that Aadeshna doused himself in kerosene and set himself ablaze.

The family members have instructed the police that Aadeshna owned 16 bigha land and had cultivated cotton on it. But after his crop failed he was once beneath force on account of the rising debt.

Police stated that Aadeshna had taken loan of over Rs 10 lakh from two banks and was once unable to pay it back. Since past two days he was once not chatting with family members. He was once additionally warding off food and was once depressed. Police stated that Aadeshna has three sons aged between 13 to 19 years. All are finding out.

With the loss of life of Aadeshna, the toll of farmers, who have dedicated suicide because of crop failure, has fastened to 24 in Saurashtra since September 2018.

On January 24, 50-year-old Savji Bhojani of Mota Rampar village of Padadhari taluka in Rajkot had immolated self after his crop failed.

Earlier, Meraman Sida (27) in Nagadia village of Kalyanpur taluka in Devbhoomi Dwarka district had ate up poison and died in Porbandar Civil Hospital on January nine. While, on January 18, 22-year-old Ramesh Makwana, a farmer from in Rabarika village of Jamjodhpur in Jamnagar district had hanged himself at his area.

Of the 24 farmer suicides reported since September 2018, six have been reported from Amreli, four from Devboomi Dwarka and Surendranagar districts, three each and every from Rajkot and Junagadh district, and two from Porbandar. One suicide each and every was once reported from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar districts.
