Buy me Rs 9K iPhone, mayor tells Chandigarh MC


CHANDIGARH: Newly-elected mayor Rajesh Kumar alias Kalia has requested the municipal corporation (MC) to buy Apple iPhone X with a new connection for him at a time when the civic body is struggling to fight fund crunch.


The mayor has made the demand in writing to the officers of the MC, who have initiated the process. It comes a week after Kalia used to be elected the mayor. Though a mayor is entitled to a new cell phone, the number of Kalia is somewhat dear. An Apple iPhone X with 64GB house prices Rs 91,900, while the one with 256GB specification is for Rs 1.06 lakh.


According to information of the MC, each former mayors Asha Kumari Jaswal and Davesh Moudgil avoided to take any such facility and neither purchased a new cell phone nor took a cell connection at the expense of the civic body Mayors from the Congress (2013-2017) had purchased cellphones, but not a single one used to be in this top worth vary.


MC laws state the mayor is entitled to take a cell phone irrespective of any price. The laws mention that when the time period of the mayor, he has to go back the telephone and if he's prepared to retain it and the number, he has to pay the depreciation quantity to the civic body.


Many years again, the MC had allotted laptops to all 36 councillors costing Rs 14 lakh. A majority of the councillors neither returned the laptops nor gave the depreciation quantity to the MC. In 2012, the civic body issued understand to all such councillors who didn't deposit the money, asking them to both deposit the laptops or pay the depreciation quantity.
